One of the most beloved—and creative—cocktails ever served at The Chandelier inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is the Fire-Breathing Dragon, which recently returned to the menu offered at the “inside” of the multi-tiered, crystal-draped lounge. Inspired by the molecular gastronomist movement, mixologist Mariena Mercer created the crimson-hued, “smoking” concoction with the flavor profile of a “Thai-influenced daiquiri,” mixing Bacardi Dragon Berry rum with lemongrass, raspberry and Thai chili.
The presentation of the drink itself is unique: a Champagne coupe rimmed with pink peppercorns, accompanied by Red Bull Orange Edition in an ornate goblet, served with a shot glass filled with nitrogen-charged raspberries. “Smoke” rolls off both the glass and out of the mouth of the consumer as the sub-zero raspberries are exposed to the warmer air and liquid.
Although there’s no wrong way to enjoy the Fire-Breathing Dragon, Mercer does have some advice for imbibers looking to get the most out of their cocktail. “Take a sip, then take some raspberries, followed by another sip,” she said. “The raspberries are only charged for about a minute, so it’s important to consume them while they’re active.”
